New Career Videos Section on CPH Website
Watch 27 Videos of Professionals with Exciting Careers
Do you want to find out more about a rewarding career that connects people with plants and the environment? Are you interested in horticulture, design, education, leadership, or working with the community? If yes, check out The Center for Public Horticulture at UD’s new Career Videos website section. This section features 27 short videos that spotlight diverse public horticulture professionals who love their jobs.
The videos can be viewed on five custom players, each with its own theme, including:
- Public Garden Education
- Community Outreach
- Public Garden Leadership
- Plant Science and Horticulture
- Overview: a mix of everything
These themed players feature interviews with the following public horticulture professionals:
- Dave Barnett, President and CEO, Mt. Auburn Cemetery
- Michael Dosmann, Curator of Living Collections, The Arnold Arboretum at Harvard University
- Christine Flanagan, Public Programs Manager, United States Botanic Garden
- Susan Fields, GreenBridge Manager, Brooklyn Botanic Garden
- Caroline Lewis, Director of Education, The Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden
- Mary Pat Matheson, Executive Director, Atlanta Botanic Garden
- Sharon Myrie, Vice President of Education, Brooklyn Botanic Garden
- Doug Needham, Education Department Head, Longwood Gardens
- Karla Osorio Perez, GreenBridge Community Greening Manager, Brooklyn Botanic Garden
- Mark Richardson, Undergraduate Student Programs Coordinator, Longwood Gardens
- Richard Schulhof, Deputy Director, The Arnold Arboretum at Harvard University

Each professional is spotlighted in a "Career Profile" and a clip called "Career Advice from the Experts." In the Career Profile, each person talks about what he / she does, favorite parts of the job, and professional / educational background. In the Career Advice clip, each person talks about why public horticulture is a good career choice and offers advice to students or mid-career professionals that might be interested in a similar job.
18 of these videos were filmed in the summer of 2008 at the American Public Gardens Association National Conference, with an additional 9 filmed on location with staff of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in New York City. The Center would like to sincerely thank the American Public Gardens Association and the BBG for supporting the filming of these interviews and the Career Profiles Project. Sincere thanks to the interview participants for sharing their inspirational stories with the next generation of public horticulture professionals.
